overheard in the office

If you've never been to the site, it's rather humorous from time to time... Today someone posted:

Employee #1: If you want to send me your resume, I'll see if they're looking to hire designers. I think they are.
Employee #2: Does the place resemble Hell?
Employee #1: You mean like here?
Employee #2: Yeah. Like, if it's a few shades lighter red, and about half the amount of writhing souls, I'd be interested.

That's basically how I feel right now. I'd be interested in anything less hellish. But when I search in the job listings, I have a hard time thinking that any of them would be less hellish. And I don't want to be a truck driver...so...that really limits my options.

Anyone know of any good jobs in my surrounding area?

my prayer for the past week.

Psalm 71: 12 & 14
Be not far from me, O God;
come quickly, O my God, to help me.
But as for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.

I want to blog more on this later, but for now I just want to say, I am so thankful to God for the hope that he gives me.

A continuation of a previous post.

Read the article. Then read the book.

Debbie on Profound Truths of God

Debbie was telling me today about how tired she is of helping others. Debbie is the kind of person who would do ANYthing for ANYone, but recently, she has grown tired of helping those who continue to make the same mistakes. Due to some of her own personal issues right now, her wick is gone and she's just done. It's like now she needs someone to take care of her...she just can't emotionally help anyone else right now. In her spiel of her lack of patience with those around her who do "stupid" things, she made the most profound comment. She was saying, "I'm just so tiyad of it! I'm SO tiyad. I just can't DEAL wid it anymo, I just CAN'T! But ya know what? I bet God feels that way. Man, I bet God is just tiyad down to his-a nubs! If I was him, I would NOT help anyone else. No ma'am. Not ever. He's GOT to be tiyad! You know gurlll..."

I was telling a cooke last night...she says things that are so hilarious and off the wall, but then she'll say something that is hilarious and spot on. She's so right.

Praise God for his unfathomable and never ending faithfulness, patience and forgiveness.

Debbie on Close Calls

I know three posts in one day is excessive. However, I've been waiting for a good Debbie to post, and I have it.

I was sitting here checking airplane stuff (like I do) and Debbie comes back to her desk and starts saying, "Oh Lawad...Oh Lawd...Thank ya Jesus, thank ya..."

I said, "Debbie...what are you doing?"
She said, "Just praisin the lawad."
I said, "Why? What for?"
She said, "Becawaz, I'm SUPPOSTA!"
[ahahahaha...so true]
She said, "I'm just takin ya ta church ova hare-UH."
I busted out laughing.
She said, "Wha had happened was, I had lost a set of aircraft parts, but then I found them...OOOH THAnk ya Jesus! Thank ya JAY-UH-ZUS"

This is right after she can't stop SINGING "Pop, Lock, and Drop It" and "A Bay Bay" all afternoon.

I love her. She makes my LIFE right now. Seriously.

maybe we can werk it ouuuut...

Paul McCartney, Heather Mills Battle for His Millions in Court

Can they work it out? Sir Paul McCartney and ex-wife Heather Mills met to thrash out the details of their high-profile divorce in a closed courtroom Thursday.

A settlement reportedly could cost McCartney, 65, up to $120 million in a lump sum payment to Mills, 39, plus annual financial support for their daughter, Beatrice, who turns 4 this month.

Mills arrived at an annex of London's High Court first and McCartney followed shortly after. An eyewitness told PEOPLE, "He seemed relaxed, quite smiley, not at all rattled."

The court is closed to reporters, and, so secret are the proceedings, four chairs block the entrance and the door's peep holes are taped.

The couple split in May 2006 and McCartney filed for divorce two months later. They last met in court in March and are using the same divorce lawyers as Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Michelle Obama Involved in Car Accident

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

The wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was involved in a car accident Tuesday that injured a motorcyclist, the Obama campaign confirmed.

Michelle Obama was being driven in a campaign van in Hampton, Iowa, when the motorcyclist crashed into the van’s left side, the Washington Post reported. Neither Michelle Obama or any other campaign staffers were harmed in the accident.

The motorcyclist, who the Washington Post identified as 40-year-old Tim Emerson, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

“Barack and Michelle's thoughts and prayers are with (Emerson) and his family at this time,” the Obama campaign said in an e-mailed statement.

This is what I find humorous:

Neither Michelle Obama or any other campaign staffers were harmed in the accident.

Oh really. The people in the VAN were okay? The van that hit the motorcycle?

I am glad the people in the van are okay...I just want to know how the guy that sccccrraped across the gravel with his FACE is doing.
He was taken to a nearby hospital.

For your reading pleasure...

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand life better.

It is an excellent book that breaks down economic principles into easy to grasp examples utilizing everyday scenarios. The piece on political arrogance is brilliant. Just thought I'd share...

moral depravity.

Do not let this title confuse you. I am not one of those people who shouts that "this old world" is going to hell in a hand basket...that Gabriel is "wetting his lips" to blow that trumpet. In a nutshell, I am not my grandmother. However...a recent trip to McDonald's has caused my brow to furrow.

I went to McDonald's for lunch and just wanted a hamburger. So...I bought something I haven't had in a long time...a Happy Meal. The woman, over the loud speaker, asked if it was for a boy or girl...I said, "Girl.." and drove on. When I got my meal, I reached down into the bag and pulled out my toy. The following picture is what I pulled out:

I was amazed at this toy. Seriously...THIS is what McDonald's is giving to girls as a toy? A midriff baring, miniskirt wearing, hooker-esk Barbie? I shook my head and threw it back in the bag. I never make comments like this...but I find this toy to be highly offensive. I would never give this toy to a girl to play with as a model for a fun girl.

What happened to these guys?

What's more fun than a hamburger that turns into an animal? Really McDonald's...what happened here?

It's only right that I address this.

You gotta be in it to win it.

"In the long run even the most despotic governments with all their brutality and cruelty are no match for ideas. Eventually the ideology that has won the support of the majority will prevail and cut the ground from under the tyrant's feet. Then the oppressed many will rise in rebellion and overthrow their masters."

oh little joys of life...

Let me just being by saying, I LOVE CHRISTMAS. I love love love Christmas. Holidays in general I enjoy, but Christmas is by far my favorite. I would easily give up my birthday to have two Christmases...if that's the right word.

SO, in the spirit of my favorite holiday, of course Hallmark is right there with me, with a lot of Christmas stuff out already! As I was walking around the store, smelling candles that smell of "Christmas Cookie," my eyes fell upon this:

Seriously. All together now..."AWWWWWWWW." Yes, that is precious.

My husband had the same sentiment about this ornament...which I share to some extent, but not fully:

SO...we are now the proud owners of 2 Christmas tree ornaments. :0)

Yay.

Motive.

I found this article through Piebald's blog, but I wanted to share it on here. The article is entitled Christian Hedonism. Piper makes a couple of good points here that I wanted to share...not necessarily related to an argument surrounding Christian hedonism, but just surrounding our motives as we live the Christian life.

Hebrew 11:6 enters combat with Immanuel Kant. "Without faith it is impossible to please Him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him." You cannot please God if you do not come to him as rewarder. Therefore, worship which pleases God is the hedonistic pursuit of God in whose presence is fullness of joy and in who hand are pleasures for evermore (Psalm 16:11).

It reminded me of the story of Cain and Able. I'm not going to go into it here, but the clear issue between the offerings was the heart in which they were given. It's the same as the story of the widow and her offering, where she "gave more to the collection than all the others put together. All the others gave what they'll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn't afford—she gave her all." (Mark 12: 41-44) This lesson of the condition of the heart is reinforced again and again. What you give doesn't matter. It's how you give it. God is God...he will provide for it all, regardless of what he is given. If it is within his will for 5,000 of us to eat fish, we will. It doesn't matter if the boy gives 3, 4, or 700 fish...God will provide. He doesn't need us to give so that he can work. He needs us to give for our own good...for our heart, and furthermore, our happiness. He went on to say:
We will bend all our effort, by the Holy Spirit, to persuade people

  • that "abuse suffered for the Christ [is] greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt" (Hebrews 11:26);
  • that they can be happier in giving than receiving (Acts 20:35);
  • that they should count everything as loss for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus their Lord (Philippians 3:8);
  • that the aim of all of Jesus' commandments is that their joy might be full (John 15:11);
  • that if they delight themselves in the Lord he will give them the desire of their heart (Psalm 37:4);
  • that there is great gain in godliness with contentment (1 Timothy 6:6);
  • and that the joy of the Lord is their strength (Nehemiah 8:11).

We will not try to motivate their ministry by Kantian appeals to mere duty. We will tell them that delight in God is their highest duty. But we will remind them that Jesus endured the cross for the joy that was set before him (Hebrews 12:2), and that Hudson Taylor, at the end of a life full of suffering and trial, said, "I never made a sacrifice."

We will not try to motivate their ministry by Kantian appeals to mere duty? We won't? Can I get a show of hands of people who have ever been guilted into ministry work? Wow. We will remind them that Jesus endured the cross for the JOY that was set before him. We need to remind people that delight in God IS their highest duty. What a convicting passage.

But what good does it do for me to blog about it, but not put it into practice?

I will be honest here. I have had a hard time lately with being joyful in the Lord...or what I do for him. Getting up for church...doing devotions or other reading...just seemed a struggle for me. I've gotten caught up in the legality of it all. Not doing devotions results in guilt, which (for me - idk about you) results in me feeling like I need to do something to better myself before I go back to doing devotions. But how laughable is that. It's such a joke...but that's how I feel. I have also realized lately that I rely too much on doing things because they are the right things to do. I.e...going to church because I "should" or to avoid feeling guilty when Mom asks if we have found a church yet. You know...the Christian checklist mode. But man, it's o-n-l-y all about the heart. I am pretty sure God doesn't even care if I go to church or not if I don't have the right heart about it. Apply that to a whole congregation and see how many you have actually stay. If we all truly believed in the checklist above like most of us say we do, how would that completely revitalize the face of Christianity. Sometimes I need to be reminded that delight in GOD is my highest duty. Not one of us is better than another. We are all saved only by the grace of God.
